Frequently asked questions about distance learning programmes

How do I secure my discount?

Step 1: By enrolling for your preferred distance learning programme by July 7th, you save 1.444€ in tuition fees and receive a free iPad to study with. 

Step 2: To benefit from our discount, you must start your programme by December 31st. Indicate your starting date when you fill in your online application. 

Ready? 

Your free trial runs for 4 weeks. If you cancel your contract during this time, your trial month is free. 

How does distance learning work?

Our distance learning programmes make use of the latest tools to let you study at your pace, whenever and wherever you want. This guarantees you maximum flexibility in combination with individual support.  

In our programmes, you can choose between full-time or part-time plans and online or offline exams. We don’t have fixed dates for terms, so you can start whenever you want. 

Where are the exams held for distance learning programmes?

You decide where you want to take your exams. We offer you two options: 

• Online exam 
  You can sit your exam online. The IU is the first university of applied sciences to offer online exams for its distance learning programmes. You can sit your exam in the comfort of your own home – 365 days a year, 7 days a week, at any hour of the day. 
• Offline exam 
  Each month, we offer you a range of exam dates at our examination centres in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. 

How can I finance my distance learning programme?

You have a range of options to reduce the financial load of a distance learning programme. You might be eligible for state funding, or you can claim tax advantages or take out a study loan. Are distance learning programmes tax-deductible?

In some cases, the tuition fees for a distance learning programme at IU International University of Applied Sciences are tax-deductible. You can get back up to 42% of your tuition fees! The final amount depends on your individual situation. Under certain conditions, you can reduce your income tax by declaring the tuition fees for your first or second degree and other costs resulting from your studies (i.e. travel expenses, learning materials etc.). Conditions of participation

Discount campaign 

The discount is only available for first-time enrolments in our bachelor’s and master’s distance learning digrees until 07.07.2022 and only to non-students of distance learning programmes of IU International University of Applied Sciences. The studies must be commenced by 31.12.2022 at the latest. 

The first month of your studies is free of charge if you decide against studying with us during this trial phase. If you continue with your distance learning programme, the first month counts as a regular month and will be charged as such.

People who have already registered (online) are not eligible for the discount. For the advanced training programme of Ökonom (IU) and the four Betriebswirt programmes (IU), the discount is only applicable to a connecting distance learning programme at IU International University of Applied Sciences. The discount voucher cannot be redeemed for cash. The discount cannot be combined with other campaign or cooperation discounts. 

 

iPad campaign  

Every student who enrolls at our university of applied sciences for the first time in a bachelor’s or master’s programme or participates in a distance learning training programme and has their registered address in the European Union will receive an iPad (wifi compatible, bluetooth) to use free of charge for the duration of their studies. Participants of FlexLearning, corporate trainings, special programmes and cooperations are exempt. Participants with no registered address in the European Union can receive an iPad if they indicate a registered address within the European Union. Additional costs for data transmission apply. The iPad will be delivered to you by our external provider shortly after the beginning of your studies. This is subject to Apple’s availability. A delayed delivery from Apple results in a delayed delivery to the student. The iPad remains the property of the external provider for the entire duration of the distance learning contract. If the student completes their distance learning contract as per agreement and completes their degree successfully, the iPad becomes the property of the student once the distance learning contract runs out. 

If the distance learning contract ends prematurely (e.g. because one party cancels it or for other reasons), the student must return the iPad in functional condition within one week of the contract ending. The student bears the return costs of the carrier commissioned by the external provider. Further details can be found in the transfer of use agreement.
