NEW MASTER'S PROGRAMME "SUSTAINABLE MANAGEMENT" offered IN DISTANCE LEARNING

Sustainability as an important factor for corporate success: students receive comprehensive training

  • Master's programme "Sustainable Management" starts in June 2022 under the direction of Professor Dr. René Schmidpeter.
  • The labour market offers very good opportunities for business trained sustainability experts.
  • Geographical and temporal flexibility make the course possible for all with a first degree.

Erfurt, 26 April 2022 - IU International University of Applied Sciences will be offering a new Master's programme in "Sustainable Management" from June 2022. The newly trained experts will be able to integrate sustainability as a business success factor in all important business processes. In contrast to sustainability management, all disciplines of business administration are thought through from an economic, ecological and social perspective and positioned accordingly in "Sustainable Management" - because sustainability should also pay off economically.

Renowned economist Prof. Dr. René Schmidpeter, an internationally recognised mastermind for sustainable management, is responsible for the new degree programme. He has received several awards, including for his publication "Dictionary of Corporate Social Responsibility". He also edits the "International Journal of CSR" at Springer and the management series "CSR" at Springer Gabler.

Know-how for sustainable management as a career booster

Sustainability has now arrived in many companies. Numerous larger companies, but also smaller firms, now rely on sustainable concepts and introduce environmental and social standards in their supply chains, for example. This is no longer just about strengthening the "green image" vis-à-vis customers and business partners. Many companies are increasingly taking environmental and social responsibility seriously.

Recent studies also show that companies are more successful in the long term if they integrate sustainability into their corporate strategy and transform themselves accordingly. This applies to product design as well as to the production and administration of the company.

"Sustainability and CSR are still a marginal topic in university education. In the future, however, we will have a huge demand for managers with know-how in sustainable management. Companies need decision-makers and young leaders who can bring in new perspectives to change the future positively and still act economically in the long term. Therefore, the career prospects for graduates of the Master's programme 'Sustainable Management' are excellent," says Prof. Dr. René Schmidpeter.

Elective modules offer students maximum flexibility and the opportunity to specialise. Depending on requirements and prerequisites, the distance learning programme can be completed in two to eight semesters as a 60 ECTS Master's or as a 120 ECTS Master's. The distance learning programme is aimed at graduates of a first degree in any subject area with professional experience.

The Sustainable Management programme qualifies students for middle management positions in companies that want to integrate sustainability into their corporate strategy, culture and organisation. Possible positions include management consultants for sustainable business transformation, managing directors or founders who want to establish companies with responsibility for their social and ecological environment. The degree can also be attractive for heads of finance departments who write ESG-compliant investment proposals in their annual planning and assist other departments with sustainable innovation and investment.
