How it works – Your online exam from start to finish

Test exam with proctoring

Your technical setup – Here's what you need

  • Laptop or PC only 
    No tablets, Chromebooks, Linux or virtual machines 
    Operating System: Windows or macOS in an active supported version 

  • Admin rights
    Needed to disable certain software like TeamViewer
    Make sure you can install or remove tools

  • Browser: Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (latest) 
    Incognito mode off
    Allow pop-ups, third-party cookies, webcam and mic access

  • Stable internet 
    At least 1 Mb/s upload & download
    For both devices with camera

  • Two cameras required 
    Front webcam (built-in or external) 
    Second device (smartphone/tablet) for side view. Connected via QR code.
    Tip: Connect it with a power source and activate 'Do Not Disturb'

  • Permitted aids 
    Check before your exam whether and which aids are allowed in your exam-relevant course/module.

How to prepare your exam environment

  • Have your valid photo ID ready 
    official identification document (identity card, passport or driver's license), clearly legible, in Latin script

  • Make sure that your workplace is well lit and that it is cleared of all unnecessary items for the roomscan 
    Good lighting and a clean workspace are essential for the examination process, close doors and windows. The workspace must be well-lit and cleared of any items, so that no documents, papers, books, scripts, smartphones, tablet PCs, or similar objects that are not required for the exam are within reach.

  • Make sure you are alone in the room 
    Ensure privacy and eliminate distractions during your exam (also pets are not allowed) 

  • Place your cameras in the correct position
    Front camera shows your face,  second camera must show your keyboard & mouse, your hands and the entire front of the screen 

Rules of behaviour during your online exam

  • Don’t speak during the exam, unless you are talking to the proctor.

  • Your face must always be clearly visible.

  • Your eyes must always be directed towards

    the screen or keyboard.

  • No headphones - no headset - no smartwatch.

  • No Add-ons i.e. program extensions in your browser (such as a spellchecker or autocomplete).
