“The blend of applicability, quality and internationality at IU is just right’’

Before I came to Germany, I had already worked as a doctor in India and later also led various medical institutions. After achieving my professional goals in India, I was looking for a new challenge: working in a leadership position abroad and gaining international experience. To meet this new challenge, I first looked at different countries and universities. I found what I was looking for in Germany: an economically stable and secure country with high-quality education. IUBH is quality-certified and is one of the few universities in Germany that offers English-language studies in the field of healthcare management. So I decided to study master’s degree programme in International Health Care Management here.

In order to gain practical experience in European healthcare market during my studies, I looked for an internship as a “DACH Healthcare Consultant” through the IU Career Office. I found this area of executive business development exciting because it provided me with an overview of the healthcare market in the entire DACH region. After graduation, I decided to join a management trainee programme at Helios Kliniken, which is the largest private healthcare provider in Europe having more than 120 hospitals in Germany and Spain. It was a good opportunity for me to understand how German hospitals, the Helios Group and German labour culture work. As a trainee I worked in different regions of Germany. That helped me understand the different health regulations in the individual federal states.

Content from IU studies are useful for entry into management

At Helios Kliniken I have been trained as an assistant to the management and was  working as assistant to the Helios Germany Group Management in Berlin. During this tenure, I had worked very closely with the top management of Helios Group on various projects in diverse areas such as strategy and corporate development, process optimisation, new and innovative business models, etc.

The best part about my job is that I can introduce my own ideas and implement them in the company or hospital. Currently I am working on strategic and financial projects at Helios health international, where I have to consider not only hospitals in Germany but also in Spain and Latin America. Although it is a challenge, I find it very interesting because I like challenges. However, the most enjoyable is the strategic decision-making process.

My studies at IU have often been really useful here – for example, I can rely on knowledge of strategic management or models such as the PDCA cycle, which I use for process optimisation. The mixture of applicabilty, quality and internationality at IU is just right – I would highly recommend studying at IU to anyone.
