Shorten your study time and save money

You have already completed an apprenticeship, have been working for several years or have previously studied at another university? Perfect! If so, you can have certain prior learning and study achievements recognised in order to shorten your study time and reduce your tuition fees by 30 euros per each recognised ECTS credit.

You can have your previous achievements checked for recognition in three steps:

Step 1: Select a degree programme

Step 2: Submit your certificates and other supporting documents

Step 3: Wait for the response

First, check whether there is a general recognition option for your prior achievements. If there isn’t, don’t worry! Individual recognition of your previous achievements is also possible.

General recognition

We already have pre-filled recognition applications for many training courses and continuing education programmes. You only need to attach these to your application for recognition of previous achievements (including certified copies of your references and certificates). Here you can see in advance how many ECTS credits we will award you for your training or continuing education.

Individual recognition

Would you like to have your academic achievements from another university, professional experience or training courses and continuing education programmes for which there is no general recognition option recognised? Then submit our individual application. We will check your previous achievements on the basis of the completed application for recognition including the documents you have sent to us.

You can find out which of your previous degrees, certificates or professional experience and skills you can actually claim on the websites of the individual degree programmes or directly from the IU Student Advisory Service at the respective location.
