SCHOOL IN TIMES OF CORONA

IUBH LAUNCHES FREE TRAINING FOR TEACHERS ON ONLINE TEACHING

Erfurt, 17 March 2020 - The Corona pandemic poses unexpected challenges for all teachers in Germany. What does it mean for teaching when instead of classrooms there is suddenly only the web available? Through free info sessions, the IUBH would like to support teachers in online teaching. Initiator of the project, Prof. Dr. Holger Sommerfeldt, explains what is behind the idea.

Nationwide, all schools are closed because of the Corona pandemic....

.... and this suddenly and abruptly confronts the schools with enormous challenges. They now have to switch to online teaching at very short notice, for all grades and school types.

This means a big change for teachers, who normally stand in front of the students in the classroom.

How can IUBH help?

At IUBH, we have been offering online study programmes since 2011 and have given a lot of thought over the past nine years to how to best impart knowledge via the web. In the meantime, more than 20,000 people study online with us, which means that our teaching methods are accordingly tried and tested.

We now want to pass on this knowledge about e-learning to all teachers: How do I prepare teaching material for the web in a didactically sensible way? How can I use video conferencing to get students excited about topics? Which online tools are available to me?

And how can teachers acquire this knowledge?

We started with two info sessions on Tuesday, 17 March, with more to follow in the coming days. The sessions will be accessible after the conference. We are also already working on further topics and courses on online teaching.
