The profession of social worker is very multidimensional. At the same time, it is important to always keep both human and economic aspects in mind. You would like to support people in crisis situations, for example in debt counselling or addiction counselling, help refugees to find their way around when they first arrive in Germany? Do you want to look after people with disabilities or organise leisure activities for young people and introduce them to new perspectives?
Our myStudium degree programme in Soziale Arbeit (B.A.) prepares you for this by teaching you not only the technical and methodological skills of social work, but also the basics of business administration. After graduation, you will be able to take on tasks as a specialist and later as a manager within social institutions, social enterprises or social administration.
Students of the myStudium degree programme in Social Work are awarded the title of State-recognised Social Worker or State-recognised Social Pedagogue if they successfully complete the Social Work Practice Project (internship).

Study Model & Examinations

Courses

In the Social Work bachelor's degree programme, we will provide you with expert knowledge from the field of social work and combine this with basic knowledge of business administration.
Our Bachelor's degree programme is modular. This means that you study different subject areas, which are divided into so-called "modules". Within these modules, there is usually an introductory course and an in-depth course that systematically prepare you for the completion of the module. Within the modules, you receive ECTS points (European Credit Transfer System) for each successful completion, which are a record of your achievements. These ECTS points are internationally comparable and of course, internationally recognised. We also value the optimal combination of theory and practice, which is why studying social work will offer you many advantages in your everyday life.

Practical relevance in myStudium Soziale Arbeit
If you would like to obtain the title of state-recognised social pedagogue, a recognition internship is required in addition to your studies. This practical project lasts at least 100 days and involves at least 600 hours of work and is carried out in a social institution of your choice. You will also need an extended certificate of good conduct.
The myStudium in Social Work is characterised by a high degree of theory-practice transfer. Learn how to apply theoretical content to practical situations in case studies and practise carrying out your own research projects. Apply further instruments of social work in various courses in order to practise professional action. A lively discussion between lecturers and students as well as joint self-reflection in the context of professional identity formation are also a focus here.
In addition, you will be closely supported by the lecturers throughout the programme and inspired by professional discussions. The myStudium Social Work programme also provides you with comprehensive support, including when writing your Bachelor's thesis.
