Germany's largest university opens new location for dual students in Chemnitz
IU International University of Applied Sciences (IU) will open a location in Chemnitz for the winter semester 2024/25
IU is moving into a new campus in the Chemnitz Wirkbau, starting in the winter semester of 2024/25.

Chemnitz, Germany, 16 May 2024 – Chemnitz is getting a new university. IU International University of Applied Sciences (IU), the largest university in Germany, is moving into a new campus in the Chemnitz Wirkbau complex at Annaberger Straße 73. Starting in the winter semester of 2024/25, prospective students will be able to complete dual study programmes in marketing management, mechanical engineering, media design, social work or tourism management.
In IU’s dual study programme, students gain practical experience in a company in the region in addition to the theory in lectures and seminars - consisting of classic classroom teaching and virtual classroom teaching on campus - or location-independent of the virtual campus. In the split-week time model, students can directly apply and test their learned knowledge. All programmes can be started every three months.
Practical partners in the region are, for example, companies from the electronics and telecommunications industry, hotels, price comparison portals, but also social institutions from child and youth education as well as the non-statutory welfare sector.
Thanks to the proximity to the city centre, the good accessibility and the diverse range of offers within the Wirkbau complex, IU has created an optimal prerequisite for making studying as good and pleasant as possible.
For the students themselves, the study programme is free of charge; the tuition fees are usually paid by the respective practice partner. The prerequisite for the degree programme is a general higher education entrance qualification or a technical college entrance qualification. A completed vocational training with two years of work experience is also recognised. IU does not impose a numerus clausus and instead promotes the individual talents and strengths of its students.
