ZRP in the NRW state parliament: Exchange on radicalisation and prevention
Science meets state politics
On May 7, 2026, the Centre for Radicalisation Research and Prevention (ZRP) was a guest at the North Rhine-Westphalia State Parliament in Düsseldorf for talks.
Essen, 21 Juli 2026. On 7 May and 17 July 2026, the Centre for Radicalisation Research and Prevention (ZRP), led by Prof. Dr Burak Çopur, Institute member Prof. Dr Kemal Bozay and research assistant Michel Bergmann, was hosted at the North Rhine-Westphalian State Parliament in Düsseldorf for a series of discussions. The focus of both visits was on dialogue between the academic community and state politicians regarding current challenges relating to radicalisation and its prevention.
In addition to a reception hosted by the Vice-President of the State Parliament, Berîvan Aymaz, the Institute held discussions on 7 May 2026 with the two governing parliamentary groups, the CDU and Alliance 90/The Greens. On 17 July 2026, a meeting took place with the SPD parliamentary group.
The CDU was represented by Dr Christos Katzidis, spokesperson for home affairs, and Raphael Tigges, spokesperson for science and research.
The discussions with Alliance 90/The Greens involved Dr Julia Höller, spokesperson for home affairs, and Julia Eisentraut, spokesperson for science, digitalisation and further education.
The SPD parliamentary group was represented by Dr Bastian Hartmann, spokesperson on science policy, and Christina Kampmann, spokesperson on home affairs.
Discussions centred on current developments in the field of radicalisation, societal prevention approaches, and opportunities for closer cooperation and ongoing dialogue between the research community and state politics.
