New research project investigates innovative forms of travel and provides market data for the tourism industry.
Erfurt, 21 February 2025. IU International University of Applied Sciences has launched a new research project to investigate the growing importance of bleisure travel and workations in Germany. The “Bleisure & Workation Monitor Germany’" aims to systematically analyse these two innovative forms of travel, which combine work with leisure and holidays, and to provide practical insights for the tourism industry.
For the first time, a Germany-wide survey tool is being developed that specifically focuses on the perspective of tourism providers. The aim is to obtain well-founded market data that will enable regular analysis and tracking of trends and developments. This will provide companies, destinations, start-ups and political decision-makers with valuable insights into this dynamic market segment.
The research project is initially planned for two years and will start this year with a pilot study in selected destinations. A nationwide survey will follow in 2026, and from 2027 onwards, the Bleisure & Workation Monitor is to be conducted continuously in order to create a sustainable database for the tourism industry.
