What NC is required to study Occupational Therapy?

A numerus clausus (NC) is not an issue at the IU, we allow studying without NC. We prefer to look together with you at where your strengths and talents lie, so that you can really study exactly what adds value to you and your environment. Accordingly, there is no NC with us. If you meet all the other requirements (see table and further FAQs), nothing can prevent you from making a successful start for your future.

In which city can I study Occupational Therapy?

You can study Occupational therapy in the following locations: Berlin and Bad Honnef (starting in October 2022). Furthermore, you can study at the Virtual Campus, which makes it possible to study anywhere in Germany and in a completely flexible way.

Can I study Occupational Therapy without an Abitur?

Yes, we also make that possible at the IU. In addition to the entrance qualification in form of an Abitur or Fachabitur, prospective students without an Abitur also have the opportunity to enter our bachelor’s programme. You can study Occupational therapy without an Abitur if you have completed an advanced training course (e.g. as an IHK business administrator) have a master craftsman's certificate or have at least two years of vocational training and at least three years of professional experience building on this.

Wie lange dauert das Ergotherapie Studium?

The Bachelor’s degree takes 36, 48 or 72 months, depending on the time model you choose. If you need more time and semesters for your studies, this is also absolutely no problem.

What do you need to study to become an occupational therapist?

Basically, it is an advantage if you bring communication skills, empathy and a sense of responsibility to this professional field. In occupational therapy you will learn to accompany people on their path to recovery. You support the cognitive and motor skills of acutely or chronically ill people, victims of accidents, children, elderly or disabled people. During your studies, you will learn how to improve disorders of fine motor skills or movement disorders of the entire musculoskeletal system with exercises. You learn how to determine treatment plans, train movement sequences and movement functions, carry out individual or group therapy, advise patients and relatives and keep medical records. The job opportunities for occupational therapists are ideal and the demand for well-trained people is very high.
