Major business decisions are always associated with certain risks. Your job as a risk manager is to analyse these risks. If you work in a bank, for example, you have to assess the credit default risk before a credit decision is made. In the case of mergers and acquisitions, you have to check whether this will result in the desired potential. And if a company wants to launch a new product, a detailed analysis of the competition and the financial risks is highly relevant. Regardless of the specific business field, it is always your goal to identify potential risks, evaluate them and develop scenarios to avoid them in order to prevent future damage to the company.
Controllers are responsible for measuring the profitability of the entire company via key figure systems. On this basis, they must uncover risks, weaknesses and potential for improvement in the company, but also recognise opportunities in order to be able to develop and evaluate solution concepts - often together with the specialist departments. Controllers are also in great demand during implementation: They record and evaluate the implementation progress and success centrally and - if necessary - suggest adjustment measures.
As a compliance officer, you have a controlling and supervisory function in the company. You are responsible for developing an organisational structure in which employees can comply with legal regulations. You introduce control mechanisms that can be used to detect violations of these regulations. In addition, you inform employees about legal regulations and provide training in this area.
