Yes, this is also possible at IU. In addition to the entrance qualification in the form of an Abitur or Fachabitur, interested students without an Abitur have the opportunity to enter our Bachelor's programme. You can study Computer Science without an Abitur if you are a state-certified technician/business economist, have completed an advanced training programme, have a master craftsman's certificate or have at least two years of vocational training and at least three years of additional work experience.
The bachelor’s degree in Computer Science through the distance learning programme lasts 36, 48, or 72 months, depending on which time model you choose.

You’ll start with an introduction to computer science and academic working, learn object-oriented programming with Java as well as requirements engineering, and complete a project to get started with web programming. Next up: an introduction to data protection and IT security, Mathematics Fundamentals I, data structures and Java class libraries, data modelling and database systems, plus the project “Allgemeine Programmierung mit C/C++”. You’ll then deepen your knowledge with Mathematics Fundamentals II, algorithms, data structures and programming languages, operating systems, computer networks and distributed systems, as well as programming web applications and web-based information systems. Your studies come full circle with the project “Data‑Mart‑Erstellung in SQL”, quality assurance in the software process, theoretical computer science and mathematical logic, IT service management including the seminar “Aktuelle Themen der Digitalisierung”, as well as projects in IT service management, software engineering and agile software engineering.
