Your IU Studies in Game Design
In our modular Game Design degree programme, you first deal with the basics and methods of user-centric design. This includes basic scientific knowledge in the areas of general psychology, user design, user experience and the design and ergonomics of user interfaces. Then it's on to storytelling and the conception of content and control systems for games and interactive media. The topics of data analytics and IT project management round off your knowledge in the field of game development.
A look into the future: what you will do after graduation
You can already determine your future professional focus during your Game Design studies by specialising in areas such as concept, core or analytical Game Design. Not enough yet? Then deepen your knowledge in digital business models, monetisation or data analysis. After completing your Game Design degree, you will become a sought-after game expert. The gaming market is growing fast. Your chances at software development companies or publishing houses are correspondingly good.
The most important questions about studying Game Design
As a university, IU deliberately does not have an NC. Here you simply study what you feel most like and what ideally suits your talents. Regardless of your grade point average. Studying without an NC is a matter of course for us, so that you will always get the place you want.
You can currently complete your Bachelor's degree in Game Design at the Virtual Campus. This means that you can study anywhere in Germany.
Yes, that is also possible at IU. In addition to the entrance qualification in the form of an Abitur or Fachabitur, interested students without an Abitur also have the opportunity to enter our Bachelor's programme. You can study Game Design without an Abitur if you have completed an advanced training course (e.g. as a Chamber of Industry and Commerce business administrator), have a master craftsman's certificate or have at least two years of vocational training and at least three years of subsequent work experience.
The Game Design Bachelor’s programme lasts for 36, 48 or 72 months, depending on which time model you choose. If you need more time and semesters for your studies, this is absolutely no problem.
According to StepStone and gehalt.de, you can earn up to €65,000 a year, depending on experience and federal state. For the development of games for consoles and apps, the upper limit is €74,022, according to data collected by stellenanzeigen.de. And the trend is clearly upwards, as the gaming industry is becoming increasingly popular and your job offers ideal career prospects.
