Scholarships for your financial independence
Are you looking for an easy way to reduce your tuition fees, preferably for the entire duration of your studies at IU?
It could not be easier: At IU, we award a total of four scholarships every month to people with particularly inspiring backgrounds. In addition, there are many other support measures available to you, which you can use to help finance your monthly tuition fees. We will briefly introduce you to the various options available.
IU Scholarship – for special people with special goals
Every month we award a total of four 50% scholarships to selected individuals who are not yet enrolled at IU International University of Applied Sciences. With the IU scholarship, we primarily support people with disabilities, women in tech, single parents or new beginners who want to follow their very own educational path.

What is the amount of the IU scholarship?
We award four IU scholarships every month, which cover 50% of the tuition fees.
How can I apply for an IU scholarship? Send your application by e-mail tostipendium@iu.org. In the subject line, please indicate for which scholarship you are applying. You can send in your application by the end of the month so that it can be considered for the current month.
You can start your application process for your desired degree programme at the same time as you apply for your scholarship. It is important that you only start your studies after you have received feedback from us regarding your scholarship.
We will inform you about your acceptance or rejection approximately two weeks after the end of your application month.
Who can apply for an IU scholarship?
IU scholarship for people with disabilities: With a health impairment, you are used to master small or big challenges every day in order to make your dreams come true. We want to encourage this commitment so that you can also encourage others! Requirement: You can prove that you have a permanent health impairment. In addition, you must submit current proof of your impairment in the form of a medical certificate or a severely disabled person's ID card.
IU scholarship for women in STEM studies: Are you setting out to conquer male-dominated industries with your tech skills? We are fully behind you - through our Women in Tech scholarship! Requirement: You are applying for one of our Bachelor's or Master's degree programmes in the field of IT & Technology. In addition, you must present your motivation for a technical profession in a written letter of motivation or a video.
IU scholarship for single parents: If you are a single parent studying at IU, you deserve more than just respect. Because you are not only concerned about your future, but also about that of your child, we would like to honour this personal achievement by supporting you financially. Requirement: You are a single parent, have sole or shared custody and your child or children live with you.
IU scholarship for new beginners: Do you want to change your career direction or start over completely? Then you have a lot to gain: Because education knows no age - even if BAföG is no longer available! To reward your courage, we award our IU scholarship for new beginners. Requirement: In a letter of motivation, tell us about the reasons for your new start and the goals you are pursuing. This will help us to better assess why we should support you in particular in this endeavour.

What do I have to consider when applying for an IU scholarship?
You can only apply once for an IU scholarship.
The application period for the scholarship corresponds to the full calendar month (e.g. 1 January to 31 January). The selection of the people to be sponsored takes place in the following month.
Your application will only be valid for the month in which you send your documents – not for future months.
If you receive approval for the scholarship, your study contract must be signed within three months – otherwise your scholarship will expire. The start of your studies can be even further in the future.
Deutschlandstipendium – for particularly gifted students
Are you particularly talented, capable and already enrolled at IU? If you would like to receive financial support for your first degree, second degree, supplementary degree or Master's degree, the best thing to do is apply for a Deutschlandstipendium from the federal government. In this way, you can secure a welcome relief of 300 euros per month.

What is the amount of the Deutschlandstipendium?
The amount of the Deutschlandstipendium is currently 300 euros per month. Of this, 150 euros is paid by the federal government and 150 euros by private sponsors - for example, business enterprises, foundations, associations or other private individuals.
How can I apply for a Deutschlandstipendium?
You can apply to study in Germany during the respective application period (winter semester: 01.06. - 31.07. of the respective year or summer semester: 01.12. - 31.01. of the respective year). Applications can be submitted via our application portal: https://bewerbung.dstip.de/iu
Important: The link is only valid during the application phase. Prior registration is required to apply.
If your application is shortlisted, we will request the relevant official certificates and translations from you by post, if these have not already been submitted at the time of enrolment. You will not receive any confirmation of receipt of your application and no feedback as to whether any documents are missing. Applications not submitted in due time and form will not be considered.
Incorrect information given during the application process will lead to immediate exclusion. The scholarship holders are selected by the representatives appointed by the university on the basis of the documents submitted in due form and time. Approval or rejection will be communicated by e-mail.
What documents do I need to apply for a Deutschlandstipendium?
Letter of motivation of no more than 2 pages, in which in particular the personal career and goals, special social or personal circumstances, as well as social commitment and willingness to take on responsibility are explained
Curriculum vitae in tabular form
Certificate of university entrance qualification – in the case of foreign certificates, a translation transferable to the German system and converted into the German grading system
If applicable, proof of an aptitude test at IU International University of Applied Sciences
If applicable, Bachelor’s degree certificate or diploma (for applicants in the Master’s programme)
If applicable, proof of previous examinations and achievements (ECTS credits and evaluations)
If applicable, internship and work references
If applicable, proof of special awards and prizes
If applicable, evidence of circumstances within the meaning of Section 2 (1) and (2) of the guidelines of IU International University of Applied Sciences (related to the performance records as well as extracurricular involvement and special personal or family circumstances).
If applicable, proof of enrolment at IU International University of Applied Sciences.
Certificates, awards and other achievements (e.g. active participation in projects/associations) can only be recognised and evaluated if they can be documented.
Who can apply for a Deutschlandstipendium?
Anyone who is enrolled at IU or will be enrolled in the semester following the application can apply. In addition to first degree programmes and second- or supplementary-degree programmes, Master’s degree programmes are also eligible. For distance learning and part-time students, the cut-off date for the start of funding is 1 April or 1 October - parallel to the start of the studies on campus and the dual study programmes. The scholarship holder must be registered as a student at IU during the funding period. Evidence of this must be provided.
What are the selection criteria for the Deutschlandstipendium?
1st + 2nd semester
The following criteria are taken into account in the overall assessment of potential:
An average grade of the university entrance qualification of 2.0 or higher
Vocational qualification or advanced training (master craftsman, business administrator, etc.) with an admission to IU International University of Applied Sciences of 2.0 or higher (for those with vocational qualifications)
Final grade of a diploma or Bachelor’s degree of 2.0 or higher (for Master’s degree students)
Documented evidence of:
special achievements, awards and prizes, previous professional activity and internships
extracurricular involvement/commitment such as voluntary work, social, university or political commitment or involvement in religious societies, associations or clubs
special personal or family circumstances such as illnesses and disabilities, caring for one’s own children, especially as a single parent, or close relatives in need of care, working in a family business, gainful employment while studying, family origin or a migration background
3rd semester
The following criteria are taken into account in the overall assessment of potential:
Complete attainment of the number of ECTS of the standard period of study of the semesters elapsed up to that point, as provided for by the IU International University of Applied Sciences in accordance with the corresponding curriculum
Previous academic performance of 2.0 or higher
Documented evidence of:
special achievements, awards and prizes, previous professional activity and internships
extracurricular involvement/commitment such as voluntary work, social, university or political commitment or involvement in religious societies, associations or clubs
special personal or family circumstances such as illnesses and disabilities, caring for one’s own children, especially as a single parent, or close relatives in need of care, working in a family business, gainful employment while studying, family origin or a migration background
What legal basis and data protection regulations apply to the Deutschlandstipendium?
The legal basis for the Deutschlandstipendium is the Act on the Creation of a National Scholarship Programme (Scholarship Programme Act - StipG) of 21 July 2010 and the Ordinance on the Implementation of the Scholarship Programme Act (Scholarship Programme Ordinance - StipV) of 20 December 2010. In order to award Deutschlandstipendiums, it is necessary to collect and process personal data from applicants and to store it for this purpose.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMMES FROM OTHER ORGANISATIONS
In addition to the IU scholarship and the federal government’s Deutschlandstipendium, there are also numerous other scholarship programmes provided by non-profit foundations. Depending on the scholarship, the amount of financial support varies from 597 euros per month to 7,200 for your entire degree at IU.
