Project Manager in an Engineering Office
Regardless of the functional areas you consider, the working world of tech-based companies consists, to a large extent, of projects and associated project management. Projects in technical areas might include the development of new components, introduction of a new production line, or the construction of a new test track for commercial vehicles at a truck manufacturer. Besides having deep technical knowledge, you are good at planning, coordination, leadership, and marketing. These are necessary skills to successfully complete the diversity of tasks that arise in a project. One essential part of project management is project planning. Services, quality, deadlines, costs, and milestones have to be planned. Together with your team, you use the appropriate project management tools to make your working flow more efficient.
As a quality manager in a tech environment, you are responsible for improving process, product, material, and service quality. You are in charge of ensuring that customer requirements are met concerning product quality. You design ways to minimise quality costs and shorten throughput times to achieve effective production processes. For this, you analyse production and business processes, define weak points, and develop and implement appropriate measures. You work closely with the development, design, production, materials management, and procurement departments, and possibly also with technical marketing, sales, and product management.
Engineering Project Manager
Engineering project managers are responsible for the complete supervision of large, challenging projects. Your expertise is in demand when evaluating customer inquiries to develop concepts while also considering alternative solutions. You coordinate everyone involved in the implementation including operators, suppliers, specialist departments, and authorities. Your business knowledge provides a foundation for assessing risks and including costs in the calculations. You review the technical bid documents and assist in the event of technical problems all the way up to commissioning.
