What your Education and Inclusion studies at IU look like

Throughout the programme, you gain a thorough understanding of special needs education and inclusion. You will learn about creating individual support plans and discover innovative technologies to create barrier-free learning environments. The unique aspect of our programme is that you can start from the fourth semester, as the first three semesters are recognised due to a completed training as a 'Heilerziehungspfleger:in'. You have the chance to set your individual focus through four elective modules, further educating yourself in areas such as Digital Skills, Diversity Management, or family education.

Outlook for the future: What you do after the programme

Upon completing your studies, a variety of career perspectives in different fields open up. For example, you could work as a staff member in early childhood education settings, creating an inclusive daycare environment where children with and without special needs have equal educational opportunities. Another area of work is in disability support services, where you accompany people with disabilities and develop inclusive structures. Additionally, you have the option to work as an educational staff member in organisations and companies, initiating and adapting inclusive development processes to cater to diverse needs. Through your expertise and commitment, you contribute to creating a more inclusive society, allowing for full participation of all individuals.


Please note that upon completing the bachelor's programme „Heilpädagogik und Inklusion“, you will not receive the title “State-recognised special needs educator” according to the Thuringian Social Professions Recognition Act (ThürSozAnerkG). If you wish to obtain state recognition as a special needs educator, you must complete the bachelor's programme in „Heilpädagogik“ including a recognition internship.
