Why you should study Social Pedagogy and Inclusion

A degree opens doors: it broadens your horizons, prepares you for more responsibility, and creates new career opportunities or promotion possibilities. Moreover, your studies significantly contribute to your personal development. You invest in yourself and your expertise, actively shaping your career path. Studying is also enjoyable—especially when you're passionate about the content and can easily integrate it into your daily life, as is the case at IU.

What your Social Pedagogy and Inclusion studies at IU look like

With your completed training as a state-recognised educator, you halve your study time. This means that the first three semesters and all their modules are automatically recognised, so you start right away with the content of the fourth semester.

You will gain methodological skills and interdisciplinary knowledge in areas such as developmental psychology and parent counselling. Additionally, you will build knowledge in child protection, trauma pedagogy, inclusion, and the legal aspects of social work. In the elective area, you can focus on topics aligned with your goals, such as leadership responsibility in social institutions, power and violence in special needs education, or early intervention and child protection.

A look into the future: What you do after the programme

After graduation, you possess valuable skills that are increasingly in demand given the rise of inclusion and diversity in educational institutions. Various career paths are open to you. For example, you might become an educational specialist in daycare centres, ensuring that all children can develop according to their needs.

If you prefer to support people with disabilities, you can apply your expertise in disability support services, accompanying children, adolescents, adults, or seniors in their daily lives. You can also jumpstart your career as an inclusion consultant for organisations or companies. In this role, you initiate inclusive development processes in educational institutions and organisations. Your focus is on transforming structures and practices towards a more inclusive environment.

Please note that upon completing the bachelor's programme Social Pedagogy and Inclusion, you will not receive the title "State-recognised social pedagogue" according to the Thuringian Social Professions Recognition Act (ThürSozAnerkG). If you wish to obtain state recognition as a social worker or social pedagogue, you must complete the bachelor's in Social Work, including a recognition internship. More information about state recognition can be found here.
