IU Incubator Project VR Sono

Boost your ultrasound-skills using Virtual Reality

Project Description

The main challenge for beginners in ultrasound diagnostics is learning hand-eye coordination to precisely create the desired two-dimensional cross-sectional image through the movement of the ultrasound transducer in six degrees of freedom. A virtual reality (VR) environment would offer ideal conditions for this. This project investigates a) how recorded ultrasound examinations can be converted into a three-dimensional model and new, freely selectable 2D cross-sectional images can be generated from it, b) how a realistically feeling ultrasound examination can be replicated in VR, and c) whether interventions can also be simulated in such a VR system.

Duration of the Project

10/2025 – 10/2027
