Apply until June 30th and use the code LERNEN26 to get a €1,444 discount and a free iPad.

With a successfully completed apprenticeship and work experience, you have various options for starting your distance learning programme at IU International University of Applied Sciences (IU) without a university entrance qualification. In addition to vocational training and work experience, a master craftsman's certificate or advanced training can also entitle you to study.
Even better: We credit your previous advantages to help you save time and money. Before starting with us, you can get your options assessed free of charge.
You benefit from prospective salary increases in your old or new job
You’re given more interesting tasks and can develop professionally
You have better chances of promotion and taking on more leadership responsibility
You have completed at least two years of vocational training and can subsequently demonstrate at least three years of professional experience (full-time)? Perfect! Depending on what you would like to study and what the focus of your education and professional activity was, you can start directly with a trial study programme or obtain the university entrance qualification for your desired IU study programme through an entrance examination.
Another way to study without a university entrance qualification is to prove that you have completed advanced vocational training. This is a state examination with which you can further your education, for example, to become a technician, educator or business administrator.
In this case, the same admission requirements apply to you as to prospective students with a university entrance qualification. Even with a master's certificate (Meister), you can study at universities and universities of applied sciences.
During your training and later in your job, you will acquire specialist knowledge and know-how. In addition, you can benefit from your skills by having them recognised for your studies at IU! This saves you 30 euros per ECTS point and significantly shortens your study time. Of course, you also have the option to complete your studies in regular time and thus reduce your workload.
What you should bring with you:
You have completed at least two years of vocational training. The qualification must be recognised and at least DQR level 4.
You have gained at least three years of full-time work experience to match your vocational training.
Your chosen study programme builds up on your education and professional experience.
Or
You have successfully completed your technical college entrance qualification (Fachabitur) with a non-subject-related focus.
If you have completed a non-subject-related form of education with work experience, an entrance examination can help you find your way to the degree programme of your choice.

Simply apply online for your preferred programme. You have two starting options: With Comfort Start, you can begin immediately or at a flexible date as an Auditor (Gasthörer:in) and submit your documents in parallel. With Classic Start, you begin later as an enrolled student—after all your documents have been reviewed. Depending on the starting option you choose, you’ll receive either your Auditor (Gasthörer:in) contract or your student contract. You can finalise this directly during your online application or upload it digitally signed—or as a manually signed document—in the application portal. You also submit all required documents through the application portal. After completing your Auditor (Gasthörer:in) contract (Comfort Start) or after your documents have been checked (Classic Start), you’ll receive a welcome email with your login details for the online campus.
Choose modules with a total of 15 ECTS credits, which you complete within 12, 18 or 24 months, depending on the time model you choose. You can take the exams at your convenience online or at one of more than 45 exam locations. If necessary, a Study Coach will be at your side.

If you pass your modules in the chosen time frame, you have successfully completed the trial study programme. This makes you eligible for this IU Bachelor’s programme. After the trial period, your regular study programme starts. The completed modules will be credited to you.
What you should bring with you:
You are pursuing a study programme that is unrelated to your completed education and/or professional experience.
You have completed at least two years of vocational training. The qualification must be recognised and at least DQR level 4.
You have worked in a full-time profession for at least three years.

Please note: During or after the entrance exam, changing your study programme is subject to a review. This means that you may have to complete an entrance exam or a trial study period again.

In addition to the entrance examination, your study aptitude test serves to optimally prepare you for your studies. For this test, you refresh school knowledge over the course of 350 days. To complete, you have to pass an online test with at least 50% correct answers. Don’t worry, you can retake the test as often as you like and take it at the same time as the entrance exam.
Four weeks after the start of the trial study or the aptitude test, the regular tuition fees become due. This is because the time you invest in your trial studies/entrance examination also counts towards the standard period of study.

At the IU Academy, you can complete continuing education that is relevant to the job market, even without a high school diploma, and earn a certified degree at the university level.
Get your studies off to a good start: Our student advisors will be happy to provide you with answers and all the information you need for your application.
