Best scientist: IU's professor Knut Linke receives student award from "I'm a scientist"

Prof Dr Knut Linke was named best scientist by school students for his answers to questions on the topic of artificial intelligence

Summary

Prof Dr Knut Linke was named best scientist by school students for his answers to questions on the topic of artificial intelligence.

Erfurt, Germany, 8 March 2024. In February and March, pupils from 28 schools took part in a new session of "I'm a Scientist", an offer from Wissenschaft im Dialog. In 30 live chats and on the I'm a Scientist website, the students asked their personal questions about artificial intelligence. They received answers from 28 scientists, who answered a total of 69 exciting questions. At the end of the session, the inquisitive minds decided which of the experts was the most convincing. The title for the best scientist in the AI round was awarded to Prof Dr Knut Linke, Professor of Computer Science at IU International University of Applied Sciences. He researches the use of new media in the world of learning and work.

Prof. Dr. Knut Linke

"I am so delighted that the students have awarded me this special honour. It motivates me even more to continue working on the topic and the target group. It's great to be able to help young people get to grips with the topic of artificial intelligence and therefore also computer science. Both are extremely important in our fast-paced everyday lives, as almost all areas of daily life now interact with AI solutions. Competitions and events like this help to break down inhibitions and barriers to new technologies so that people can master technology and not technology master people," says Prof Dr Knut Linke.

For his award, the AI expert will receive an honorary prize of 500 euros for a science communication project for which he already has ideas:

"I am currently planning a short publication suitable for children and young people on the subject of AI. In it, I will address the questions and ideas from the various rounds. The whole thing should be realised in the course of the year. The prize money will be used for the production and printing of the publication as well as for the distribution of specimen copies to the target group of I'm a Scientist. For example, the schools I know from the chats will also receive a souvenir copy."

In June, I'm a Scientist will continue with sessions on "Democracy and AI" and "AI creatively". Further information can be found at: https://imascientist.de/
