Erfurt, Germany, 25 August 2023. IU International University of Applied Sciences (IU), the largest university in Germany, has started a partnership with DEHOGA Sachsen e.V. (The Hotel and Restaurant Association of Saxony) from October 2023. This means that IU is gaining the third largest state association with over 1,200 members and potential practice partners for dual studies, alongside DEHOGA Lower Saxony and DEHOGA North Rhine-Westphalia. The aim of the cooperation is to recruit and train dual students for the hospitality and tourism industry.

The day of the cooperation, the Chief Executive Officer of DEHOGA Sachsen e.V., Mr. Axel Klein, visited the IU location in Dresden. “The cooperation with IU underlines our commitment to promoting education and strengthening the competitiveness of our members. We are confident that this partnership will help to further drive the future of our industry and open new opportunities for all participants. By closely integrating theory and practice during their studies, it allows students to bring fresh perspectives and innovative ideas to our companies. This collaboration encourages the creation and implementation of innovative concepts and solutions that will ultimately contribute to the sustainable growth of our industry.”

The cooperation includes various measures that go beyond simply reducing tuition fees. These include the joint publication of job advertisements, the organisation of events and excursions as well as the integration of employees from the partner companies into the teaching activities. This can be done through lectures, expert talks or as honorary lecturers.

About the dual study programme at IU

The dual study programme at IU offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience in a regional company in addition to theoretical lectures and seminars. This model allows students to apply their acquired knowledge directly into practice, either in a weekly rotation or a split-week model. The theoretical part of the study programme can be completed in different ways: traditionally on-site at the campus, through online teaching or also independently of a location via our virtual campus.
